Bridge over Thornapple

Here is a sample of art I made with residents of a home for dementia patients. When I work with a group of these folks I encourage them to let the color move on the paper with whatever artistic ability or fine motor skills they have. Simply watching the marks appear as a result of their action often brings about conversations from people who had  stopped talking.  Building on whatever they have created, I’ll add elements like potato prints to complete the piece. Then we sing old songs and have some rollicking fun. At these moments between tears, we just might be the happiest people in Kent County.
