Architecture of Zaha Hadid

My studio will be holding three classes for elementary school children starting Tuesday July 9th. We will start with basic building blocks, (Community Playthings Unit Blocks), to learn how architects build for strength and balance. Then we will practice different kinds of lines, (curved, parallel, concentric, diagonal), and acquire confidence in our motor skills. The second day we will look at how Hadid designed fluid forms with rigid materials. A well-known example of Hadid’s work in Michigan is the Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University. I will use web content that will inspire students to design original 2-dimensional structures. It will be like building a stadium to resemble a sand dune or a water-washed stone. Finally, students will translate all these ideas into a painting using acrylic paint on canvas.
